In May, Indiana's sports betting market saw a handle of $361.6 million, marking a 27.6% increase compared to the same month last year, though it represented an 8.2% decline from the $393.9 million wagered in April. This decline indicated a drop in spending for the second month in a row.
The Indiana Gaming Commission revealed that the combined revenue from the state’s 16 retail sportsbooks and 12 sports betting apps reached $39 million. This figure was 5.1% higher than April's revenue and showed a 15.4% rise from the $33.8 million reported in May 2023.
Basketball emerged as the top sport for betting, attracting $97.2 million in wagers. Baseball followed with $73.7 million, while American football saw $1.7 million in bets. Other sports collectively brought in $86.7 million, and parlay bets totaled $102.1 million. The total tax collected amounted to $3.7 million, contributing to a year-to-date total of $19 million.
