With Allwyn’s acquisition of Camelot UK and its new role as the operator of the UK National Lottery, one might have expected that the legal disputes over the Gambling Commission's selection would be resolved. However, Northern & Shell PLC is proceeding with its claim for damages.
The Health Lottery operator was among the four bidders in the Gambling Commission’s tender for the lottery license, competing with Allwyn, the incumbent Camelot, and Italy's Sisal (now part of Flutter Entertainment). Northern & Shell is now seeking £20 million in damages.
Owned by media tycoon Richard Desmond, Northern & Shell has previously been unsuccessful in multiple National Lottery bids. Unlike the other bidders, it had not confirmed its participation in this recent tender.
The Case Management Conference is scheduled for 10:30 am today (Wednesday) at the Rolls Building on Fetter Lane in London. Northern & Shell will be represented by Michael Bowsher QC, while Sarah Hannaford QC will represent the Gambling Commission. Allwyn's interests will be defended by Quinn Emanuel.
A related case filed by IGT, Camelot’s former technology partner, against the Gambling Commission was dismissed.
