In May, Maryland's half-dozen casinos raked in a combined $173.2 million from gaming, marking a modest 2.2% increase from the previous year and a solid 6.1% rise from April's earnings of $163.2 million. Leading the pack was Live! Casino and Hotel, boasting $65 million in revenue, a 10.3% surge compared to May 2023.
Hollywood Casino saw a year-over-year increase, bringing in $7.8 million, up by $204,423. Meanwhile, MGM National Harbor reported $72.3 million, reflecting a $551,000 uptick. Horseshoe Casino experienced a downturn with $14.7 million, down by 15.9%. Rocky Gap Casino and Ocean Downs Casino also saw decreases, with revenues of $4.97 million and $8.35 million respectively, each down by several hundred thousand dollars.
The casinos contributed a total of $74.45 million in gaming taxes to the state, marking a $3.62 million increase compared to May 2023. Contributions to the Education Trust Fund amounted to $53.7 million, up by 4.2% from the previous year.
In other developments, Betr has received initial approval from the Maryland Lottery to operate a sports betting platform within the state. The next step involves approval from the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission before Betr can secure its license. Earlier, Betr had announced agreements for market access in Pennsylvania for online sportsbooks and casinos, and for online sportsbooks in Colorado and Kentucky.
