Puerto Rico gaming industry generated $186m in revenue in 2023
07 June 2024 - 19:44The gaming industry in Puerto Rico saw significant growth in 2023, with total revenues reaching $186 million, as reported by the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission. The casino sector was the primary contributor, accounting for $177.3 million of the total revenue, with online wagering making up 80 percent of the bets.
Sports betting generated a little over $500,000, while the horse racing industry contributed $8.7 million. Despite sports betting being legalized in Puerto Rico in 2019, the market only became operational in early 2022, and online sports betting was introduced just last year.
Currently, Puerto Rico has six licensed online sports betting operators. However, only two are currently active: BetMGM, in collaboration with Casino del Mar, and Caesars, partnered with Casino Metro.
